Sustainability at Mantra Charles Hotel

Here at Mantra Charles we are committed to embedding sustainability into every facet of our daily operations. We recognise that sustainability is an ongoing journey and are continually striving to reduce our carbon footprint wherever possible. Below are some of the initiatives we have implemented to date.

Mantra Charles Environmental Program

Opt-Out or Opt-In Cleaning: Our established program offers guests the option to reduce daily cleaning during their stay, conserving resources and improving efficiency. Guests who choose to ‘opt-out’ can also enjoy a $10 credit per day towards food and beverage purchases as part of this initiative.

Dry Amenities

We are delighted to share our ongoing commitment to reducing single-use plastics in our guest rooms. As part of this initiative, we have made a significant decision to eliminate single-use dry amenities, taking a bold step towards a plastic-free environment.

We understand the importance of preserving our planet for future generations. By removing single- use plastic amenities such as pens, key cards, toothbrushes, combs, and shower caps from our guest rooms, we are significantly reducing our environmental footprint. Instead, guests can request dry amenities by calling room service or visiting our friendly team at reception.

Large Amenities

As part of our ongoing efforts, we have made the proactive decision to move to large format amenities, replacing our single-use plastic common amenities with eco-friendly pump dispensers throughout the hotel. By eliminating single-use plastic bottles, we are significantly reducing the amount of waste generated by our operations. This commitment aligns with our dedication to environmental stewardship and reflects our ongoing efforts to improve sustainability in all aspects of our hotel.

Food Waste

At Mantra Charles, we are committed to reducing food wastage and promoting sustainable practices across our food and beverage outlets and conferencing department. We understand the importance of minimising our environmental impact while delivering exceptional culinary experiences to our guests.

  • Participate in a sustainable cooking oil collection program which is upcycled into base material “feedstock” for renewable fuel.
  • Our restaurant implements seasonal menus with ingredients from local suppliers.

Recycling

At Mantra Charles, all hotel waste is separated into co-mingle, cardboard, food waste and general waste, minimising our impact on landfill. In addition, we have implemented the below steps to further embrace a circular system.

  • Safety Equipment and Protective Gear waste containers

  • Sustainable cooking oil recovery and disposal methods, G-Force, provides is the first of its kind in Australia, enabling Waste Contractor to provide a more comprehensive used oil collection and treatment service to our customers
  • Reducing Hazardous waste by replacing incandescent and fluorescent bulbs with LED’s which are free of toxic materials

Community Support

We are committed to maintaining strong connections with our local community and give back wherever possible.

  • Auntie Judith-Rose has been an integral part of Accor’s journey of Indigenous engagement in Tasmania. She has mentored and guided us in the acknowledgement of the Indigenous people of the Kanamaluka, the true custodians of the land that we live and work. The Art work “Family” by Auntie Judith-Rose is presented in our acknowledgement plaque.
  • Involvement in the annual Cancer Council 5km Fun Run.
  • Diversity day for hotel staff celebrated every year.

We are proud to be a Sustainable Tourism Certified hotel with Ecotourism Australia. The Sustainable Tourism Certification program assesses our environmental, socio-economic, cultural and responsible management principles to ensure we are minimising our negative impacts and maximising benefits for the environment, communities and culture. This achievement reinforces our ongoing commitment to delivering sustainable hospitality and creating positive impacts for our team, guests, local community and planet.
